Structure


The project consists of the three research groups that will collaborate with each other in order to achieve its objectives.


Investigation of the seismic coupling and seismological processes in the plate interface based on seismic monitoring and geodetic observation data.

A-1 “Offshore observation”: Detection and analysis (for the first time in Mexico) slow earthquakes that occur under the ocean floor by developing a sea bottom seismic and geodetic observation network.

A-2 “Onshore observation”: Research based on onshore seismic and GPS data and finds the long-term spatial change of the seismic coupling in the plate interface.


Construction of scenario earthquakes/tsunamis constrained by geodetic and seismological observations.

B-1 “Earthquake modeling”: Construction of earthquake cycle models, physics-based earthquake source models, and slow earthquake/slow slip event model for the Guerrero area in particular.

B-2 “Tsunami modeling” sets the basics of the seismic source area and carries out simulation of tsunami heights and inundation.


Risk assessment and educational programs for disasters prevention meeting local needs.

C-1 “Vulnerability and risk assessment” develops structural and socio-economical vulnerability studies in coastal cities of the Guerrero State and risk scenario maps for different return periods of large earthquakes and tsunamis in the target region.

C-2 “Educational programs and outreach” provides education programs to raise awareness of disaster mitigation.
