Geochemistry Group

This group is formed by eight research staff members. It initially rose up as an important further research tool in the studies of the first formed sections of this Department. Nowadays it is a well established research group that carries on geochemical and isotopic studies in several regions of Mexico. Its study results have generated geochemical and isotopic information that is the basis for other geologic and research studies. The research lines developed in this section are:
Petrogenetic characterization and Tectonics of the magmatic provinces of Mexico
Determination of Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic profiles of active stratovolcanoes
Rb-Sr, Nd-Sm and U-Pb geochronology of rocks and minerals
Development of analytical techniques in main elements, trace elements and isotopic geochemistry
Trace element concentration determinations: 1) rare earth elements 2) metals 3) platinum group elements.
